Key Scriptures

Key Points

  • Circumcised men heal on the banks of the Jordan prior to Passover.
  • Only one Passover is recorded after the exodus until they get to the other side of the Jordan, then Passover continued all the way to the Last Supper with Jesus.
  • Circumcision was a covenant given by God to remember Him and He to remember us.
  • On this side of the resurrection, circumcision occurs in our heart. God poured out His blood for us on the cross. This circumcision is made in our spirit through faith.
  • Israel’s reproach was rolled away at the bank of the Jordan. God wanted them to know that He was no longer disappointed in them and this new generation was ready to march fourth in faith.
  • Persistent shame lies to us and tells us that is who we are. Our identity in Christ frees us from shame.
  • The Lord manifested himself to Joshua in the form of a warrior with a sword; Joshua was willing to surrender to his orders.
  • God does not want us to wallow in shame but to move forth in victory and fully hold onto His forgiveness and covenantal relationship in his blood.
  • Jesus is our Passover Lamb.

Discussion

  1. What was your primary takeaway from Sunday’s message?
  2. Do you have any shame that you are holding onto that is causing you to not fully embrace God’s forgiveness?
  3. If you were to encounter the captain of the Lord’s Army, how would you have responded?
  4. How can this message help you to better understand communion and the Lord’s Supper?
