Key Scriptures

Key Points

  • God’s presence, power, and promise held back the Jordon River.
  • The people had to camp next to the flooded Jordon for three days to take in the magnitude of the obstacle.
  • Passing over the Jordan required more faith than the Israelites needed 40 years prior when they walked across the Red Sea. This time they weren’t running from trouble; they were walking into trouble. This required Faith!
  • Passing by the priests and the Ark in the dry riverbank made a lasting impression on those who crossed.
  • Memorial stones were placed for generations to remember the faithfulness of God.
  • God wants us to remember times in our past when He delivered us through trials.
  • Memorials help us to remember to have faith when faced with new trials.

Discussion

  1. Describe a critical time in your life that God got you through.
  2. How does remembering that time help you today?
  3. Do you tend to forget those moments or remember them in times of trials?
  4. Have you set up a shadow box, a journal, or something to share with your children about how God has been faithful to your family?
