  • Unity of the Spirit is pleaded for by the Apostle Paul as part of a bigger plan.
  • Our calling is chosen, adopted as sons and daughters, redeemed by Christ’s blood, and forgiven of our sins.
  • Unity of the Spirit is maintained or preserved, not created. It is bestowed by the Spirit to all true believers.
  • Christ baptizes us in the Spirit… He immerses us into the unity of Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • We are a part of one body–one Church.

Discussion Questions

  1. Paul was imprisoned by Nero, but he saw himself as a prisoner of whom? (See Eph. 4:1). How does this apply to you?
  2. Considering the Spirit’s action in Gen. 1:2Luke 1:35Mark 1:11, and Acts 1:5 &  2:4, as well as Him driving Jesus into the wilderness to face Satan, discuss how the Holy Spirit’s action with you.
  3. What are the character qualities, or the manner we are to relate to one another, as we seek to maintain unity? (See Eph. 4:1-2) How do those qualities manifest in your life?
  4. Pray for the Holy Spirit’s help and guidance in areas of your life where there is division or chaos rather than unity in Him.
