The Multi-Purpose Room

KEY POINTS
- God gives many gifts for one purpose. The multi-purpose room only works when different people do different things toward the same end.
- Gifts are not for display.
- We are many members, but one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Isolation keeps us from ever knowing what we’ve been given.
- Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them.
- You’ve received something. You are responsible for it. Someone else needs it. And when you use it, God is glorified.
- Encouragement is a real gift. You will never know you have it until you open your mouth and encourage someone.
- Do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. The primary place these gifts operate is inside the body.
- Gifts are varied, but they come from the same Spirit. Faith, healing, helps, teaching, mercy, giving — none is better; all are needed.
- You discover a gift by putting yourself in the middle of the room, looking, listening, and stepping toward a need.
- Jesus is the only one who had every gift. He is the Gift Giver, and he came first to serve and to save.
DISCUSSION
- In the multi-purpose room, what role are you naturally drawn to? What happens if everyone is drawn to the same thing?
- Pastor Bob said, “You are a member of the person next to you.” Where does isolation still keep you from living like that?
- Romans 12 says not to think of yourself more highly than you ought. How does that change the way you hold a gift?
- Patty encouraged a shy coworker who had never heard she was loved. Who around you needs a simple word of encouragement this week?
- “You’ve received something. You’re responsible for it. Someone else needs it. God is glorified.” Which of those four is hardest for you right now?
- How is discovering a gift by stepping toward a need different from waiting until you feel ready?
- If the household of faith is the primary place these gifts operate, where is one person in this body you can serve this week?
